The United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky announces the following upcoming training opportunities:
From the Bench: Q&A with U.S. Magistrate Judges- September 11
The court, in association with the Louisville Bar Association’s Federal Practices Section, will host a conversation with United States Magistrate Judges Lanny L. King, Colin H. Lindsay, and Regina S. Edwards on September 11, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT at the Gene Snyder U.S. Courthouse. Topics will include:
- Dos and don’ts of settlement conferences (including tips for Zoom conferences, written submissions to the court, and opening statements)
- Practice pointers on civil discovery/discovery disputes
- General practice pointers from the bench (any pet peeves)
- Trends in warrant applications
- Trends in pre-trial detention, any pointers regarding detention hearings

United States Sentencing Commission- September 24
The court will host a free training event to be delivered by representatives of the United States Sentencing Commission on September 24, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. EDT at the Gene Snyder U.S. Courthouse. Lunch will be provided. A draft agenda, along with speaker bios, is available here. The KBA has approved this training for a total of five (5) hours of CLE credit.
For those unable to attend in person, this training will be streamed to the courthouses in Bowling Green, Owensboro, and Paducah.
